- Australian Blue-Legged Tarantula (Phlogius PQ113):
- If you are in Australia, you can keep this native species. It has a shiny blue abdomen and blue legs with a dark grey body, making it a beautiful Australian option.
- Care Considerations
- Housing:
- Provide an enclosure with a secure lid to prevent escapes, as tarantulas can climb glass and plastic. Offer a secure hide, anchor points for webbing, and plenty of substrate for burrowing species like the Golden Blue Leg Baboon.
- Temperature:
- Keep them at room temperature.
- Water:
- Provide a water dish and keep it filled. Overflowing the water dish into a corner of the enclosure can provide a small moist area for the tarantula to use, according to Tom's Big Spiders and Bug Frenzy.
- Feeding:
- Feed spiderlings flightless fruit flies or chopped mealworms, and larger prey like crickets or mealworms for adults, once a week. Wait a week or two after molting before offering prey again.
- Venom:
- Be aware that all tarantulas have venom. The venom of species like the Cobalt Blue Tarantula and the Golden Blue Leg Baboon can cause severe muscle cramps, inflammation, and pain.
